About Us

ResearchOur Vision

Our goal is to bolster Hampton University faculty materials science research activities and serve as a catalyst to recruit and retain talented African American and female students who pursue research careers in materials science and engineering fields.

Research Thrusts

  • Dynamics of assembly of polymeric thin films - This collaboration with MRSEC faculty studies the mechanisms of assembly and disassembly of linearly and exponentially growing polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) thin films.
  • Protein interactions with complex polymeric assembly systems - The in vivo performance of drug delivery devices are dependent on its interaction with serum proteins. PREM faculty research includes the dynamics of formation and structural composition of the adsorbed serum protein to our PEM drug delivery system.
  • Fabrication of bioinspired drug delivery systems - The strengths of the Hampton-based PREM faculty in PEM-based controlled drug delivery systems and the Brandeis MRSEC faculty expertise in chiral self-assembly systems are applied to fabricate drug delivery systems consisting of regions of PEM and chiral self-assembly of rods in order to determine whether regulation of chiral control of packing density results in sequential and controlled release kinetics.

Hampton University

Other universities simply teach history. Hampton University puts you right in the middle of it. Because, as you'll soon discover, you're not just a part of Hampton University —  Hampton University is a part of you.

While our roots reach deep into the history of this nation and the African-American experience, our sights — like yours — are set squarely on the horizons of the global community of the 21st century.

Rich in history, steeped in tradition, Hampton University is a dynamic, progressive institution of higher education, providing a broad range of technicalliberal arts, and graduate degree programs. In addition to being one of the top historically black universities in the world, Hampton University is a tightly-knit community of learners and educators, representing 49 states and 35 territories and nations.

Hampton University is nestled along the banks of the Virginia Peninsula, near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The surrounding city of Hampton features a wide array of business and industrial enterprises, retail and residential areas, historical sites, and miles of waterfront and beaches. Attractions such as Fort MonroeNASA Langley Research Center, and the Virginia Air and Space Center add to the splendor — and just plain fun — of the HU campus.

Brandeis University

Brandeis University (Brandeis) is a Carnegie Classification research institution with a strong legacy of contributing to global equity and opportunity for people from all race and ethnicity.  Characterized by academic excellence since its founding in 1948, Brandeis is one of the youngest private research universities, as well as the only nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored college or university in the country. For students, that means unsurpassed access to a faculty renowned for groundbreaking research, scholarship and artistic output. At Brandeis, professors bring newly minted knowledge straight from the field or lab to the graduate and undergraduate classrooms.

Brandeis supports an innovative and exciting program of learning that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and the solution of real-life problems. Brandeis is ranked in the top tier of the nation's universities. Graduates depart to pursue careers in a wide array of fields, and advanced studies in the nation's leading graduate and professional schools.
